CURSE OF BOON

-

SWIFT EXIT: Clive in also starred in Boon ( AS jovial Coronation Street binman Eddie Yeats, Hughes was one of soap’s biggest stars between 1974 and 1983.

He also had roles as Onslow in Keeping Up Appearances – ironically opposite Clive Swift – and as Twiggy in The Royle Family as well as chancer Vernon Scrips in Heartbeat.

But Geoffrey’s own heart stopped beating in 2012. He was 68.

What caused his death? The finger clearly points to a 1992 role playing Tiny Tim… in Boon! AS the long- suffering husband of Hyacinth Bucket in the BBC sitcom Keeping Up Appearances, Clive Swift warmed the hearts of a nation.

And when the actor died earlier this month, fans were shocked that a man of just 82, in apparently good health, should be taken from us so soon.

And researchers have found that once you’ve been in Boon, your days are numbered.

In 2002, the curse took the show’s star, Michael TAKEN: Michael Elphick as Ken Boon in the ill- fated show Elphick, who played former fireman Ken Boon. He was only 56.

And Death has been merrily swinging his scythe at other actors who – perhaps desperate for work – took the Boon shilling to keep the wolf from the door.

Today we investigate those laid low by the dreaded Curse of Boon…
