Uncle Bulgaria beaten up by England fan

- By BARNEY SAMUELS news@ sundaysport. co. uk

ANTI- BULGAR feeling reached fever pitch on Friday when kindly kids’ entertainer Tom Black was beaten to a pulp – for dressing as elderly Womble Great Uncle Bulgaria!

Tensions had been running high since Monday night when Bulgarian racists subjected England football players to vile Nazi abuse in Sofia.

But it was innocent Tom, 45, who was caught in the crossfire.

Tom groaned: “I was going to do a 10th birthday party and they’d asked me to dress as Great Uncle Bulgaria as the kid’s a big Wombles fan.

“I was on the bus on the way to the gig and these lads in England tops said ‘ Hey, there’s a Bulgaria, he must be a racist’ – and they gave me such a kicking.

“I’d like to make it very clear that I am not a racist and I’d also like to point out that Great Uncle Bulgaria is not actually Bulgarian. In fact, he is wise and kind – unlike Bulgarians.”

Tom, of Didsbury, Manchester, says he’s not sure whether to report the attack as a race incident and says he’ll “look at the compo on offer” first.

Last week six “Bulgarian football fans” suspected of subjecting black England players to racist abuse were arrested in police raids.

England’s 6- 0 Euro 2020 qualifier win over Bulgaria in Sofia was stopped twice in the first half following racist chanting by home supporters.

Bulgarian authorities hope that by fitting up six halfwits for the abuse, they’ll escape harsh measures from Uefa.

Meanwhile, both the English FA and Uefa have condemned the actions of the ‘ ultras’ section of Bulgaria fans, vowing to “wage war on racists”.
