REBEL Scottish leader Nicola Sturgeon’s plans for Scotland to break away from the UK have been dealt a major blow by members of the trans community – who have declared Scotland’s national dress a HATE CRIME!

Ms Sturgeon is soon expected to announce details of her plans to move towards a second Scottish independence referendum.

And observers say she may be considering a breakaway if Boris Johnson refuses a Westminster- approved vote.

But those plans have been thrown into disarray by trans activist and Scottish nationalist Gwendoline McDonald, who says the traditional KILT is an “affront to all trans people”.

“For Scotland to become a truly modern, independent, European nation, it is clear that Holyrood needs to pass a law outlawing the kilt for non- trans persons, or cis women.”

Insiders say that Ms Sturgeon would face a massive backlash if she did outlaw the kilt – last banned by English authorities after the Jacobite rebellions of the 18th century.

But at the same time she cannot be seen to be alienating the powerful Scottish trans lobby.

A source said: “You try taking a Scotsman’s kilt away. It’ll be like Braveheart again.”
