ON SUNDAY
DEANO
WHITE, middle- class guilt – what a revolting thing it is to witness.
We witness a lot of it these days thanks to – yes, you guessed it – social media.
And it reached, I think, its nadir last week.
I’ve been a national newspaper reporter for 25 years and I’ve seen some pretty horrible things.
But this is really upsetting. A little girl holding a “black lives matter” placard and the word “privileged” with an arrow pointing to her head.
We’ve obscured the girl’s face – there’s no need for Sunday Sport to identify her.
The poor little thing only looks primary school age.
I’m not going to name her mum – out of respect for the child.
But I will ask: IN WHAT F** KING UNIVERSE DOES A MOTHER THINK THIS IS RIGHT?
OK, Mum, you may be crippled by guilt that you live a nice, middle- class lifestyle in a nice area while black people are being killed by cops in Minneapolis.
Nobody, NOBODY – apart from a few racist scumbags with genital hygiene issues – could fail to be shocked by what happed to George Floyd.
But parading your OWN CHILD as a powerless prop in your demented virtue signalling?
There are single- cell organisms living at the bottom of my garden pond who could tell you that’s a bad idea.
What was the point of it? To get some ‘ likes’ on Twatter from your right- on friends?
If you want likes, post some pictures of the f** king cat.
Or was it to show off the nice Minton tiles in your hall? How the f** k should I know how these people’s minds work?
I can understand black people in America being furious about what happened in Minneapolis.
African- Americans have had the shitty end of the stick in the US since that country was born.
I can understand black people in this country being angry. We’re not immune to the poison of racism in this country either.
But on both sides of the Atlantic, well- off white people are using the black community’s pain and anger as an excuse to parade their own right- on credentials.
If they really wanted to show “solidarity”, how about giving ALL their wealth to disadvantaged black people.
No. Thought not.
