PIEGATE: Philip ( and Harry with Meghan

PRINCE Harry’s wife Meghan tried to win over grumpy Prince Philip by baking his favourite quail and partridge pie when he and the Queen came to tea.

But rather than being charmed, the ageing Royal stuck his FINGER in the baked treat and declared it “far too wet” before demanding his favourite SPAM FRITTERS.

The incident was apparently the “last straw” for former Suits actress Meghan and soon afterwards she and Harry announced they were quitting their Royal duties and leaving the UK for good.

According to insiders,

Carolyn Durrand and

Omid Scobie – who wrote Finding Freedom, the controversial new biography of Meghan and Harry – omitted the pie incident from the final draft to avoid embarrassing the Queen.

A Palace insider said: “The incident became known as ‘ Piegate at the Palace’ and everyone knew it sent Meghan into a cold fury.

“She’d been up since five that morning making the pie and for the Prince to dismiss it like that hurt her deeply.

“Poor Prince Harry, by all accounts, did not know where to look. He could hardly tell Prince Philip off, could he?!

“I think Piegate was the straw that broke the camel’s back for Meghan as she realised she was fighting a losing battle with Philip and his Palace supporters.”

Meanwhile, Princess Kate has reportedly been left reeling by the bombshell biography.

The book lays bare a rift between Prince Harry, 35, and Meghan Markle, 38, and the rest of the Firm.

Royal author Andrew Morton has revealed how Kate has been left “devastated” by the feud enveloping the Royal Family, saying: “There’s no doubt the rift between Harry and William has deeply affected Kate.

“It upsets her.”
