BALE BANNED FOR MO PO!

Ex Spurs boss didn’t have dough for Gaz

- By PAUL THOMAS

MAURICIO Pochettino says he would NEVER have been allowed to sign Gareth Bale when he was in charge of Tottenham.

The Welshman is on his way back to White Hart Lane on a season- long loan from Real Madrid.

Pochettino — who many think was unwisely sacked by Tottenham last season — says he would have loved a player like Bale.

But the money was never on the table to get such a deal done. Spurs are shelling out about £ 15m in wages over the next 10 months.

Mo Po is reminding the club’s fans that all the cash was going into rebuilding the stadium in his time at the Lane.

Pochettino said: “Bale is a fantastic footballer. He is at an age where he still has strength, plus experience and maturity.

“He has been seven or eight years at Real Madrid: he has been decisive, he has won four European Cups, he has scored in important matches. The times we have met, he has always been very affectionate with me.

“There was never the possibility to get him for me, first of all because everything was focused on finishing the stadium.

“When we got to the Champions League final, we hadn’t signed a player for a year and a half.

“After that, I left. There was never the possibility, but it’s clear that a player like Bale would have brought a lot to the team.”

And Pochettino is frustrated that he has missed out on managing Bale — again!

He added: “My No2 Jesus Perez said to me: ‘ Imagine if Bale signs for Tottenham. We went to Southampton, Bale had left. We signed for Tottenham, Bale had left. Now look, he’s coming back to Tottenham!”

It’s not just Bale who is about to set White Hart Lane alight.

Mourinho is on the verge of bringing in another Real Madrid player in full- back Sergio Reguilon.

He will cost around £ 25m and could fill a problem position on the left flank.

Pochettino said: “He’s a player with a lot of talent. He had a fantastic season at Sevilla, culminating in the Europa League.

“I think he’s a player who is for the present, but also a player who needs development and consistency in his evolution.

“Spurs need to work closely with him. He has great potential, but he’s a young player who has to keep growing.”
