MY REDS MUST WIN A TROPHY SAYS OLE

- By ANDY MILLOM

OLE Gunnar Solskjaer admits Manchester United have gone far too long without winning any kind of silverware.

The Reds have not lifted a cup since their 2017 Europa League win achieved when Jose Mourinho was in the Old Trafford hotseat.

They are in the Premier League title race and could be second if they win their game in hand over most of their rivals.

But Liverpool appear a tough nut to crack so Solskjaer thinks the breakthrough will come in one of the knockouts.

And the Norwegian thinks seeing the red ribbons on silverware would be a massive step towards getting United back on their perch — whatever tournament it comes in.

He said: “Of course it’s something we’re aiming for. I remember myself winning my first trophy.

Even towards the end of my career, I think it was

Patrice Evra and

Nemanja Vidic’s first trophy in the Carling Cup,

2006 was it?

“I think that was their first trophy and it does give something to a team.

“We are desperate to get our hands on a trophy, these players are desperate to learn how to win.”

Those comments are echoed by captain Harry

Maguire who says he moved to Old Trafford from Leicester to win things.

That hasn’t happened so far and it’s something he’s desperate to change.

The big stopper said:

“It’s really important this season that we try and get our hands on silverware and win a trophy.

“At this club we’re expected to win trophies.

We’ve got to start winning silverware.

“We haven’t won in the last two or three years now and it’s important.”

Meanwhile, United defender Eric Bailly thinks the club is going the right way on the pitch.

He said: “I’m very happy when I watch the games, the team is ready and that is important for the future.

“You always need to be positive. As I said, the team has improved game-by-game and that is very important for the future.

“We have lots of trophies to fight for and we’re in a good position in the league.”
