Toney broke Gunners look at ace Ivan
ARSENAL will make a move for Brentford forward Ivan Toney — either now or in the summer.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is a big admirer of the 24- year- old who scored 24 goals in League One for Peterborough before moving to the Bees.
He has continued to impress in west London with 16 goals and four assists in just 22 outings for his new club.
That sort of form meanes he could be poised for a move across the capital.
Brentford paid £ 10m for his services but he would cost Arsenal at least double that.
The Gunners don’t have the kind of cash to sign some of Europe’s biggest names and will be shopping at that sort of price tag for the next couple of windows.
It looks as though Alexandre Lacazette will be leaving the Emirates this summer — and he could even go before the end of this month.
Staying
And Toney could be the ideal replacement for the Frenchman who has fallen down the pecking order with the Gunners.
Elsewhere at the club it looks as though Mesut Ozil will be staying for a little longer.
That’s because of a hold- up in his possible move to Fenerbahce.
The German is coming up to the first anniversary of the last
time he played for Arsenal.
He has another six months left on his contract that pays £ 350,000 a week.
It means he has picked up around £ 10m in wages since the last time he was on the pitch for the Gunners.
But there’s a dispute with insiders saying the club are asking
Ozil to pay up the rest of his contract and hand over around £ 10m if he wants to leave this month.
At the same time, reports in Turkey suggest that Ozil wants Arsenal to pay HIM the rest of his contract before he’ll go.
It’s a mad situation that means the move is not likely to happen.
Ozil has made his feelings clear. He said: “There are two countries I want to play football in before I retire: Turkey and
USA.
“If I went to Turkey, I could only go to Fenerbahce.”
