MY TOON PLAYERS ARE LOAD OF ‘SHITE’

- By ANDY MILLOM

STEVE Bruce has launched an amazing tirade at his struggling Newcastle players — saying they are “absolute shite”.

He used that term to describe the Toon’s effort against Sheffield United as Chris Wilder’s Blades beat them to register their first league win of the season.

Bruce is coming under pressure to improve results after Newcastle plummeted down the Premier League standings.

They are now starting to look over their shoulder at the bottom three after their winless run past eight games.

The Toon gaffer says he’s had enough and will make big changes at St

James’s Park. Bruce said: “Listen, I’m fair game. We were absolutely frigging hopeless the other night

— absolute shite we were.

“I have to accept it, and that’s the way it is. If you’re Newcastle manager, or any manager in the Premier

League, you can’t accept what the other night was.

“But, unfortunately it’s happened a little bit too often during my time here.

“All the good work in the four games leading up to it went out of the window.

“Yes, we didn’t get the results, but I thought the way the team played, we did okay.

“We drew with

Liverpool, drew with

Arsenal after 90 minutes, we were in the game against Leicester.

“But the other night was completely and utterly hopeless, and I have to accept whatever is coming my way.”

Bruce is puzzled about how poorly his players have often been against other struggling sides.

Fans are accusing him of being too negative but he wants to see more passion from his squad.

He added: “Our worst performances have certainly been when we’ve been expected to win.

“So, maybe it’s something of a mentality thing. When we’re the favourites going in, we struggle with it. I think it’s a mentality thing, which we have to change.

“I have to accept that we were nowhere near good enough against Sheffield United. The same was true against Brentford in the cup tie. That’s what scars us at the minute.”
