Our tired and emotional PM needs a break

-

AS the schoolboy rhyme has it “Nebuchadnezzar, the king of the Jews, sold his wife for a pair of shoes…”

That Babylonian potentate was perhaps the first recorded example of a leader going mad, literally mad, with power.

The Roman Emperors Nero and Caligula were similarly unhinged.

George III of England and Ludwig “Mad King Ludwig” II of Bavaria were nuttier than a pair of fruitcakes.

As his “1,000-year Reich” collapsed in ruins, Adolf Hitler faced several mental health challenges.

Ugandan despot Idi Amin ate an archbishop and as for Donald Trump…

It seems that the highest office does not make for tip-top mental health.

We would not dare to presume that Mr Boris Johnson is about to make his horse a senator or feast on the Archbishop of Canterbury but it is only right we should be concerned.

His infamous “Peppa Pig” speech last weekend bemused an entire planet.

And, if reports in today’s Sunday Sport are to be believed, the PM has taken to sporting Peppa Pig pyjamas in Number 10.

We should not be too hard on Her Majesty’s first minister.

A man of advanced age who finds himself once again a father…

A fruity young wife with all her youthful needs to satisfy…

A brush with mortal death after contracting the plague that has swept the globe from godless China.

It would be astonishing if the PM were NOT feeling a little mental strain.

Perhaps, even though every fibre of his body will cry out against it, it is time for the PM to rest.

Maybe a lie down in a dark room with some soft music.

We fear that, if he fails to look after himself, the PM may end up in another sort of room…

The sort with padded walls.
