Button backs super Lew to grab eighth world crown
FORMULA ONE
JENSON Button thinks fellow Brit
Lewis Hamilton will land another world crown in Abu Dhabi.
He reckons Max Verstappen will fall at the final hurdle to the defending champ.
Button knows what it takes to come out on top having taken the title himself in 2009.
Hamilton and Verstappen go into the final race dead- level on points.
It’s only the second time that’s happened in the sport’s long history.
If neither driver finishes, Verstappen will win the title because he’s won more races this season.
But Button thinks it won’t come down to that.
He said: “I actually think this is the first time I’ve been able to pick a championship winner to win this season and I think it’s Lewis.
“Just looking at his performances the last few races and that of Mercedes.
Fight
“I think the car is working well. I still think they have the edge so Lewis and Mercedes should have the advantage.”
Button thinks this would be the greatest of Hamilton’s eight titles if he manages to pull it off.
That’s because the Brit has come from behind to take the race right down to the wire.
Button said: “It would be his greatest championship as he’s actually had a real fight on his hands.
“He obviously did that back in 2008 but this one is pretty special because he’s going up against Max.
“They are two of the best guys in Formula 1 but also two of the best to ever drive a car.
“With how aggressive the championship has been throughout the season, it’ll mean a lot to whoever comes out on top.”
Button just hopes the race is decided fair and square with no crashes.
He added: “I don’t think Max is that kind of driver at all. He’ll fight hard on the track, he’ll take it to the limit and sometimes he’ll be over the limit but I don’t think he’s a dirty driver, I really don’t.”
