Bring on the Euro big boys says Moyes

-

DAVID Moyes can’t wait for Monday’s Europa League knockout stage draw.

The West Ham gaffer thinks the so- called bigger clubs dropping down from the Champions League will be desperate to avoid the Londoners.

Barcelona are the stellar name in the draw but there is Sevilla, RB Leipzig, Porto and Borussia Dortmund also in the mix.

Moyes fears nobody after his Hammers won their group with a game to spare to win a place straight into the last 16.

The Scot said: “We’ve got a lot of big teams to play but at the moment I think West Ham are a big team..

“We’re a side who a lot will be worried about, a lot of people talking about us.

“Football changes a lot between now and March, form and injuries, so you need all of those to fall into place over time.

Glances

“Look, the names in the competition make it really difficult.

“The teams who drop down tend to be the teams who get to the final.

“But if we can take on the Champions League finalists and the Champions League winners in recent weeks I think we’ll give them a good game.”

Moyes has seen the likes of Declan Rice and Michail Antonio star this season.

That has attracted admiring glances from other clubs but the Hammers boss thinks he has a good thing going in east London.

It’s clear the the club is on a high after

beating the last two Champions League winners

Both Liverpool and Chelsea were seen off at the London Stadium and he can see real belief in the squad.

Moyes added: “The players’ attitude was unbelievable through last season and this.

“Team spirit and everything that comes with needing to be successful comes with winning.

“We need to keep it going and be on it all the time. We’re a newish team trying to keep that consistency level up but I have to say the players are doping a great job.”

“My question at the start was is there any chance we could get two more points than last year, because that would have caught Chelsea.

“That’s the challenge for us, to get another strong season. You can sometimes have a bit of a dip, but I think we’ve done the opposite and got better.

“Overall, the players are still producing at a high level.”
