Is bleak Boris boosting COVID death figures?

THEY could scarcely conceal their glee, could they?

His face set solemn, PM Boris Johnson announced Britain’s first “Omicron death” on Monday.

If parties in Downing Street were not such a touchy subject, you would have heard champagne corks popping in Number 10.

“TOLD YOU SO, TOLD YOU SO! OMICRON IS DEADLY!”

How convenient that the news of this unfortunate death came 48 hours before Boris faced a massive rebellion in the Commons over his “Plan B” measures.

Would it be very cynical to wonder whether this news was released to pile pressure on wouldbe rebels by scaring the bejesus out of their terrified constituents?

But did you notice something on Monday? It was a very subtle change in the public mood.

For the first time, many people noticed that Boris’s “Omicron death” was a death “with” the variant, not “from” the variant.

To be fair, this has been the formula throughout the pandemic.

As per Tuesday’s figures, 146,477 people have died “within 28 days of a positive ( COVID) test”.

So, presumably, if you are run over/ shot/ minced/ hit by a meteorite/ eaten by a tiger within 28 days of testing positive for COVID, even if you have not suffered so much as a sniffle, your death is chalked up in the COVID column.

Your name is added to the daily roll call, trotted out each day to further convince us that COVID is the worst contagion to hit Britain since the Black Death.

A roll call which is increasingly looking like, what in scientific terms, is known as “bollocks”.

My brother- in- law’s mother died of cancer earlier this year.

What did the medics want to put on the death certificate?

You guessed it, COVID.

How many of the near 150,000 people who have died “with” coronavirus” have actually died FROM COVID?

And how many of the 50,000 COVID cases reported daily are people at all ill from the virus?

We are told that at least a third of people with COVID suffer no symptoms. In other words, THEY ARE NOT ILL.

And when you look at the age breakdown of those who have died, “with COVID”, the vast majority are the over- 80s.

Look, I know COVID is real. I’ve got my jabs and will get my booster tomorrow. I wear a mask.

I’m no anti- vaxxer or COVID sceptic.

But the figures are being, if not manipulated, then presented in a way to justify our rulers’ actions.

I can’t pretend to know what they’re up to but, believe me, it ain’t good.
