TONY BLAIR

-

BRITAIN suspected Her Majesty might be taking the piss a bi t when it was announced that former Prime Minister Tony Blair was to be knighted and made a Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, the oldest and most senior British Order of Chivalry.

The former leader ( above), who is hated in left- wing circles as he was a Labour boss who won elections, is widely reviled for his role in the Iraq War.

But what else do we know about him?

Here are some other interesting facts…

1

BLAIR was born on May 6, 1953, in Edinburgh, one of only seven PMs born in Scotland.

2

HIS middle names are Charles Lynton. 3

HIS father, Leo, a successful lawyer and law lecturer, chose to run for Parliament as a Tory in 1963.

4

HE attended

Fettes College in Edinburgh ( a school often viewed as ‘‘ Scotland’s Eton’’).

5

HE was singer and guitarist in the rock band Ugly Rumours at university.

6

HE graduated as a barrister, specialising in employment and commercial law.

7

IN 1980, he married Cherie Booth, the daughter of Till Death Us Do Part star Anthony Booth.

8

IN 1997, when he became PM, he was the youngest Prime Minister since Lord Liverpool in 1812.

9

HE attributes his success in politics to a pair of lucky brogues which he wore for every single Prime Minister’s Questions during his leadership. He was actually a bit shit at PMQs.

10

BLAIR is widely reported to have said he watched Newcastle United legend Jackie Milburn play, even though the ex- PM was just four and living in Australia when Milburn retired. Blair later said he’d been misreported.
