Leeds take time to find new striker

- LATEST FROM THE TRANSFER WINDOW

LEEDS UNITED boss Jesse Marsch says the club will not be rushed into signing a new striker but will continue their search for the right one.

The Yorkshire outfit have drafted in eight new players since securing Premier League survival on the final day last season but have yet to add a central striker to their squad.

Leeds had a reported £ 35million bid accepted for Charles De Ketelaere earlier this summer, but he chose a move to AC Milan, while several other strikers have been linked with a move to Elland Road.

Marsch said: “I’ve said for a long time we have been evaluating for the right striker.

“Patrick Bamford being fit helps us in that area. We also have some flexibility. Rodrigo can play there, Dan James at times. We have some good youngsters with Joseph Fernandez, and Sonny Perkins. We have good young strikers.

“A lot of it is looking for the right profile, what age, without suffocating some of the young players getting chances.

“It’s trying to find the right age profile, the right player profile and most importantly the right person to come into the team.

“At striker, that’s not so easy. The way I like to play the game, we ask a lot of our strikers, to work hard, to press. It’s a demanding position the way I like to play.

“We’re trying to find the right one and are being aggressive in seeing what’s out there.”

MANCHESTER

have agreed an initial £ 11m with Anderlecht for Spain Under- 21 leftback Sergio Gomez, according to reports.

The 21- year- old former Barca Academy player will now discuss terms with the Premier League champions with a view to a move.

City have been short of options at left- back after the departure of Oleksandr Zinchenko over the summer left Joao Cancelo as the only specialist in the position.

There had been interest in Brighton’s Marc Cucurella but the club began to explore other avenues after the Seagulls refused to lower their £ 50million asking price. He later joined Chelsea in a deal that could rise to a reported £ 62million.

It is understood, however, that City will continue to pursue other options if they conclude a deal for Gomez.

The Anderlecht youngster was targeted as a development player and this remains the case.
