Race row as man ‘ blacks up’ for job interview
A JOB applicant who BLACKED UP to try and land a post advertised for ethnic minorities may be investigated by race cops.
Gerry Davies, 48, saw an advert for a council care assistant post, that was to open only to “UK nationals from a black, Asian or non- white ethnic minority”.
Outraged at what he called “positive discrimination”, he pretended to be from an ethnic minority and applied.
But Gerry was faced with a dilemma when invited for an interview at the council HQ in south London.
He said: “I decided to bite the bullet and simply blacked up for the interview. I got a few funny looks when I travelled to the council offices on the bus.
“When I arrived, they looked at me aghast. I said ‘ I’m here for the interview!’
“But they wouldn’t listen. I was threatened with prosecution for racial offences. That’s a bit rich, when the council is guilty of discrimination itself.”
The BBC was recently accused of “absolute discrimination” after it posted an ad for a role researching for Panorama – but only to ethnic minorities.
