RUSSELL BRAND KILLED MY GRAN!

Betty, 72, topped herself over missing birthday card row

WHEN Russell Brand confessed he stole money from people’s letters while working as a postman, it solved a 20- year puzzle for pretty Sarah Jones.

Because at the time Brand was working for the Royal Mail, a card from Sarah’s great- granny Betty – containing a crisp £ 5 note – went missing in the post.

But Betty is no longer alive to see the riddle explained – because, back in 1994, a family row erupted during which Sarah’s mum June accused Betty of forgetting Sarah’s eighth birthday and stopped speaking to her.

Selfish

And the rift eventually led to despairing Betty HANGING HERSELF with the panic cord at her sheltered accommodation in Ockendon, Essex.

Sarah – who used to think Terry Wogan was behind her gran’s death – said: “Granny Betty always swore blind she’d sent a card with the fiver in it but the card never arrived.

“Mum said that Granny had forgotten my birthday. She called her a selfish old cow and cut her off. I was forbidden to see or talk to Granny ever again.

“She was devastated and hanged herself. Then I heard that Russell Brand has admitted stealing money from the post. It stands to reason. Russell Brand must have stolen Granny’s card to me. In a very real sense, he killed my granny.”

Brand confessed on The Jonathan Ross Show that he feels guilty for having nicked people’s money and post so he could buy himself drugs.

The former addict said: “I should not have stolen those things. I feel bad about it now.”

Brand, 41, who managed just three weeks as a postie, could find himself in trouble with his shocking admission.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “We have a zero tolerance approach to any dishonesty.

“It is a criminal offence to tamper with or delay the delivery of mail. Any employee caught doing so faces serious disciplinary measures and risks criminal prosecution.”
