Hi Hunn… fancy some beaver?
MEAT- LOVING Germans have developed a taste for eating BEAVER!
The big- tailed woodland creatures were once almost hunted to extinction in Germany, so were given special protection.
Although still protected, they can be hunted for food and in 2015 nearly 1,500 were slaughtered.
The protection policy means beavers cannot be sold commercially or served in restaurants.
But beaver can still be dished- up at private venues, like sports clubs.
There are now around 30,000 beavers across Germany – 20,000 of them in Bavaria alone.
Beavers cause fields and meadows to flood, and they cut down trees to make their homes.
If damage becomes too great, they may be hunted with permission from the responsible authorities.
