Robson wishes his former team Boro all the best
FANS DESERVE TO STAY UP
THE man who brought Juninho to Teesside has wished Boro the best in their survival battle.
Bryan Robson, who was born in Chester-le-Street, arrived at Middlesbrough’s Riverside in 1994 heralding a golden era in the club’s history.
But speaking to BBC Tees’ Paul ‘Goffy’ Gough on a return to the region, Robbo he wished the struggling side the best.
He said: “I so wish Boro and Steve Gibson every good wish in their battle to stay in the Premier League – Steve and the fans really deserve that.
“Just driving past the Riverside brought so many happy memories flooding back. Together with Steve Gibson we were able to create some magical times for those very special fans.
“Players like Juninho, Merson, Ravanelli, Gazza and so many more simply made it unforgettable.”
In a week where Aitor Karanka was shown the door, the former England and Manchester United captain lifted the lid on his departure from Teesside which placed his long-term friendship with chairman Steve Gibson under strain.
He said: “Steve Gibson is an unbelievable man to work for.
“I had a sulk for a short while after losing my much-loved job at the Boro, but it took just a few months to get our friendship back on track.
“Whoever will be the next manager of Middlesbrough is so very lucky to have Steve backing him.
“He is Middlesbrough through and through and a top man also.
“I’m out to dinner with the chairman on Saturday night, so I may just order a few large drinks and give him my CV.” Bryan Robson with the 1995 Division 1 Trophy
