our house and we are happy to maintain and improve it - all we want is a basic garden that is safe and usable.”

Gateshead Housing said some clearance work had already been carried out and it would arrange a further visit. Oak Furniture Land replaced the cushions WOOD you believe what happened to Margaret and Norman Gilholm?

The couple asked for our help when Oak Furniture Land refused to help when their sofa, just over a year old, started to lose its colour.

A repair was carried out but, just two weeks later, the problem came back.

Margaret, of Ashington, said: “Oak Furniture Land came up with the line that as the first repair was a goodwill gesture they were not prepared to proceed with our complaint any further.”

Really? They came across so well in their TV adverts that it was surprising to see such a hard attitude.

So I was pleased when they softened up a bit.

They told me: “We take any customer complaint seriously and want all our customers to be happy with the service we provide.

“Prior to you getting in touch with us we had already reviewed Mrs Gilholm’s complaint.

“Although we stand by our claim that the discolouration was not a manufacturing fault, we have agreed to replace Mrs Gilholm’s sofa cushions as a goodwill gesture. We are pleased to report that Mrs Gilholm is satisfied with this.”

Margaret told us: “We cannot thank you enough. It has been a really stressful time, considering we paid more than £2,000 for our sofas.”
