GATESHEAD 2 WOKING 1

-

George Smith of Gateshead shields the ball during yesterday’s Vanarama National League clash against Woking at the International Stadium cial second goal and I felt we pushed in the second half enough to deserve to get a winner.

“I’m really pleased with the attitude of the players in the second half.

“They did everything you could ask of them to come back from a goal down.”

Woking were ahead midway through the first half when Terrell Thomas headed home Fabio Saraiva’s deep corner. Nathan Ralph and Gozie Ugwu were close to increasing the Heed’s discomfort, but it was a different Gateshead after the break.

The early goal they needed came when Brundle’s long throw bounced in the box and Johnson nipped in for his 18th of the season.

It was all Gateshead after that. Han- nant had earlier gone close and he set up Johnson who shot well over the bar.

Jordan Burrow was wastefully wide when well-placed and Johnson’s goalbound strike from another Hannant set-up was deflected over.

York’s diving back post header from Hannant’s deep cross was saved on the line by Cards’ keeper Michael Poke as the pressure mounted.

Charlie Carter had two shots blocked in the box in a rare Woking break before York sent the Heed Army wild with a last gasp winner.
