A black Lorus digital watch was also found, as well as a blue rucksack containing a Swiss Army knife, blue nylon ropes and the ‘History of London’ written by Robert Gray.

Found on January 5, 1981, the decomposed body of a man was pulled from the River Tyne. He is suspected to have been in the water for between two to six months.

Experts believe the man of White European descent was aged between 40 and 70, and his height was recorded from 160 to 168cm.

The man was bald and had a distinctiv­e scar on his abdomen.

Found on September 10, 1979, a decomposed body of a man missing a hand was recovered from the water in Newcastle.

The man, believed to be aged between 35 to 55 and of White European descent, is believed to have been in the water for six months to a year.

He was found wearing a Timex stainless-steel watch with a grey jumper, grey trousers, a multi-col- oured shirt and a multi-striped kipper tie.

Found on May 9, 1972, the decomposed body of a man with no teeth was believed to have been in the sea from between three weeks to three months. The 50 to 60-yearold who stood at 175cm was described as having a stocky build with light brown greying hair.

He was wearing a two-piece blue suit with the name ‘C Strachan’ or ‘G Strachan’ found in both the jacket and the trousers.
