A TRICKY junction is baffling drivers in North Tyneside.

The road layout on Cobalt Park Way has left motorists scratching their heads over when to change lanes – and when not to.

Drivers heading north towards the roundabout, near Utilitywise, are flanked by a bus lane.

But, as they approach the roundabout, motorists heading left or straight ahead are left confused when to change lane.

The problem is the bus lane ends only yards from the junction, leaving little room for queuing traffic. It inevitably ends up with frustrated The confusing junction on Cobalt Park Way drivers sat in bumper-to-bumper traffic, especially during rush-hour.

One disgruntled driver said: “The result is that traffic going straight ahead are not sure at which point they should veer left to exit the roundabout. They are holding up traffic behind them who want to turn right, and all the while there is an empty lane to the left.

“Either that or drivers start to ignore the direction arrows and move into the left lane, causing a dangerous stand-off with drivers trying to enter the roundabout from the left.

“It’s a complete bottleneck and confusing nightmare, especially at tea-time rush hour when everyone is in a hurry to get home.”
