Lively sport is not hit by the cold weather

- BY PAUL ARMSTRONG

SPORT across the region remains upbeat with most of the waters available giving satisfactory results to visitors.

The last few chilly nights have not really affected fishing too much and, with higher temperatures forecast from midweek onwards, we can look forward to a bit more action.

Marden Quarry at Whitley Bay is starting to give good results!

Silver fish are falling to waggler and maggot and the carp are on the feed also with a nice 20lb 2oz mirror being caught two weeks ago!

The ide at Dissington Pond are still showing well, these along with small perch are keeping anglers happy - expect great nets once the silver fish start to feed.

Whittle Dene Reservoirs are still fishing well.

Quite a few anglers were there last weekend so expect it to be a bit busier this bank holiday.

Both feeder and float with maggot are doing the business here.

A warm day on Sunday brought the best out of the carp at Aldin Grange.

The resident large Ghosties were in a feeding mood and Peter Jewitt and Keith Cerrone had fun taking a good few ten-pound-plus fish.

There have been outstanding catches at the Angel of the North, lots of double-figure carp and some quality silvers falling to banded pellet over angel feed.

Best results are coming from the far reeds and by keeping a margin peg fed John Dryden continued his winning run in last Sunday’s open on Lookout Lake.

Dryden led the way with 64lb 7ozs, followed by John Foster with 58lb 9oz and Anth Richardson with 53lb 6oz.

Today and tomorrow opens continue on the Angels Lookout Lake.Ryton and District fish the Tilcon Pond, and Sunderland FAC fish the Steve Brown Memorial Match at Silksworth.
