I thought I’d be looking forward to a baby, but instead I’m fighting for my life

WIFE’S IVF IS OFF AS SHE BEGINS CHEMOTHERAPY

BECKY Avery and her husband Danny were planning their future life as family when a shock diagnosis left their dreams in tatters.

After three years of marriage the couple were awaiting IVF treatment which they hoped would bring them a muchlonged for child.

But after a devastating cancer diagnosis Becky, 33, has been left facing gruelling battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma rather than IVF treatment.

The very day she was due to begin her fertility treatment she found herself at the hospital for the first round of superstrength chemotherapy.

“We said our vows, we said in sickness and health but we never thought it would come this soon,” Becky said.

“You expect your husband to look after you when you’re old, at 33 you just don’t expect it.”

The sweethearts married in 2013 after getting together as a couple in 2010, however they’ve both known each other since their schooldays growing up in Sherburn Hill near Durham.

In the year leading up to her shock diagnosis in February Rebecca lost four-and-a-half stone in preparation for her IVF treatment.

However, when Rebecca collapsed at her work Christmas party it became Becky and Danny Avery thought that clear that things weren’t right.

The travel agent, who works for Broadway Travel, said: “I’d lost the weight on Slimming World, I’d bought a new dress, I was there at the ball feeling like a princess and then I just collapsed.”

By February 3 Becky learnt she had life threatening stage four Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and traces of cancer from her neck to her hip.

“I had to start treatment so quickly I didn’t have time to freeze my eggs,” she said. There are some days it feels awful, I have bad days when I cry and cry and say ‘why me?’ but I believe that things happen for a reason and I am going to beat this.”
