CELEB Time for a revamp

-

The Vamps are bringing their arena tour to Newcastle THE Vamps are hoping they’ll finally get to sample Newcastle’s famous nightlife when they perform their third headline show at the Metro Radio Arena on Monday.

The band have been pretty much a permanent fixture in the charts for over three years now since their debut single Can We Dance landed them a top three smash.

Brad Simpson, James McVey, Connor Ball and Tristan Evans are now heading out on their third nationwide arena tour, just as they release new single Middle of the Night and Brad, who has strong family links with the region, said he can’t wait to be back in the North East.

“My mum used to live in Killingworth and I remember coming up all the time when I was growing up to see my Nan until she sadly passed away,” he explained.

“My uncle and his family still have a house in Alnwick so we like to visit when we can to catch up with everyone.

“I absolutely love the North East but unbelievably me and the guys still haven’t had a night out in the city. We always plan to but our tour schedule has meant that we haven’t been able to manage it so far as we’ve always had a gig in another city the day after.

“I’ve heard it’s meant to be a wicked night out so hopefully this time we’ll get to see for ourselves!”

The Vamps were last in the charts with All Night, a collaboration with dance act Matoma, which came as a bit of a shock to fans as it was a very different sound. But Brad said it’s a direction they’re enjoying going in as it’s the type of music they love.

“We can’t really get into our music if it’s not something we wouldn’t choose to listen to ourselves.

“We’re a band that like trying new things and we’re big fans of Matoma so to get the chance to do the collaboration was amazing.

“Yes, it’s very different from songs like Can We Dance but still has that The Vamps sound.

“We’re not all of a sudden going to be bringing out big dance records all of the time but we’re definitely enjoying experimenting and figuring out how to work that sound into a live set.”

With another DJ feature teased, Brad said The Vamps have a few dream collaborations they’d like to tick off.

“The band are all huge fans of Ed Sheeran,” he continued.

“We were lined up to work with him a few years ago but unfortunately it clashed with him going on tour.

“I’d love to work with the Chainsmokers too. They’re massive right now and they’re really cool. I like how they’ve got their own sound and they do their own thing.”

While Ed Sheeran and Chainsmokers duets could happen in the future for The Vamps, right now the focus is very much on the current tour.
