End with a whimper GATESHEAD 0 BROMLEY 2

Ramshaw sees Moors make it

-

Neil Aspin saw his Gateshead side end their season with a defeat, losing 2-0 at home to Bromley at the International Stadium the back foot for the opening halfhour, Gateshead probing without making a breakthrough.

Wes York had the best chance, heading wide when well-placed after Manny Smith headed Luke Hannant’s deep corner back across goal.

Paddy McLaughlin volleyed well over from outside the box, the turgid fare continuing after the break, despite both sides changing formations.

A punchless Heed failed to register a shot at goal in the second period apart from a late effort from substitute Jon Mellish on his Heed debut. That was blocked before it got anywhere near its target, a fitting goalless draw inevitable until Aspin’s men pressed the selfdestruct button.

Poor defending saw Dennis curl the ball into the far corner 12 minutes from time, the sublime nature of the goal not in keeping with a scrappy game.

Worse was to follow. Jamal Fyfield lost possession cheaply, with Hannant then comically slipping just inside the home half.

Ravens substitute Aiden Enver marked his debut by setting up Dennis, who again finished with aplomb past exposed keeper Dan Hanford.

It was a fourth consecutive top-10 finish for Gateshead – but that was scant consolation on an afternoon that will not linger long in the memory.
