Borini may leave on season-long loan

got. You’ve seen experienced people fail, you’ve seen new people been given a chance and been successful – people like Jaap Stam, first time.

“Look at Gareth Southgate, what has he done? He’s at England at the top of the tree.

“Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t and, if you get a good feel to it, that’s how it is.”

When asked what sort of football does a Dwight Yorke team play, Yorke said: “Attacking football.

“There’s another side of football as we all know, but what’s the point of playing football and being negative?

“I’m not a negative kind of person. I assume, from my conversation, that doesn’t exist.

“We play attacking football but in the right way.

“At times you’ve got to close up shop and play a certain way but I would like to line-up in an attacking formation.” REPORTS in Italy suggest Sunderland are set to offload Fabio Borini, but they may get less than £1m up front for him,

According to Il Messaggero, Lazio are proposing taking Borini on a season-long loan, with a permanent £4m move at the end of it. The initial loan fee, however, would be 1m euros, around £880,000.

Such arrangements are commonplace as clubs look to spread the cost of signings. Buying players from England is particularly difficult for Italian clubs because of the gulf in the financial strength of the two leagues which were once the other way around.

Sunderland, though, need to raise as much money as possible from player sales this summer. They are £110.4m in debt and even with a parachute payment to cushion them, face a huge shortfall in revenue by dropping from the Premier League into the Championship. They will therefore be keen to cut all ties with a player who clearly does not want to be at the Stadium of Light next season by selling him immediately.

They have already driven a hard bargain by making Jordan Pickford the third most expensive goalkeeper in history. The Washington-born goalkeeper has never played for England and the early signs were that Everton were not prepared to meet the asking price, but the £30m fee – including £5m add-ons – they agreed to is a reflection of his potential.

On the other hand, a release BERWICK Rangers have taken their total of new signings for the 2017-18 season to three following the arrival of young Hearts midfielder Andrew Irving.

Irving, who is only 17, has been signed on a development transfer from the Edinburgh side with a view to him gaining valuable senior experience.

Until now he has been a regular in the Jambo’s U20 team. Irving is highly rated by staff at Tynecastle, where he made his U20 debut at the tender age of 14 years old, and played an important part in the side that managed a midtable Development League finish last season.

He joins fellow newcomers, goalkeeper Robby McCrorie and defender Oliver Fleming whose signings had been announced previously.
