HATS THE WAY TO DO IT FOR RACEGOERS

broughtbro A TOUCHto Redcarof glamour Racecourse was as crowds gathered for the annual Ladies’ Day event.

Women wearing their best outfitsout provided a touch of classclas to the race day, with prizes awarded for best-dressed and best hat of the day.

The racecourse also teamed up with Redcar-based Betty LeighLei Boutique, which is in the NorthernNo­r Quarter of the town, and were around to showcase a s selection of their outfits in the fashion show in the winners’ enclosure.

Alongside seven exhilarati­ng races, competitio­n “spotters”ters had been mingling throughthr­o the crowds, selecting 10 finalists for the BestDresse­dDre Lady and Best Hat competitio­ns.

LocalL lass Stacey Simpson, 30, from Redcar won the BestDresse­dDre Lady competitio­n and said it was “absolutely amazing” that she’d won on her very first trip to Ladies’ Day.

She said: “It’s been a great day but it has been quite windy so I’ve had to keep a hold of my hat! “I actually won best-dressed at the Ladies and Gentleman evening held here two years ago, so to be chosen for something like that again is fantastic.” The victor in the Best Hat competitio­n was Michelle Harkin, 51, who had travelled up to the event from Grimsby. A self-described “hobbyist hattist” Michelle made the leopard-print fascinator herself and said she was “really happy” to have won after being chosen from 10 others. She won a Bespoke fascinator and matching clutch bag provided by Chic Hats; a Sif Jakobs pendant and earring set provided by Market Cross Jewellers; Gel nails voucher provided by Orange Kerr Hair & Beauty; a flower bouquet; and a bottle of bubbly.
