CELEB Reality star at festival concert

SHE was without a doubt one of the most talked about contestants on The Voice Kids, and North East school girl Courtney Hadwin will have a triumphant homecoming today when she performs in front of thousands of music lovers in South Shields.

Academy at Shotton Hall pupil Courtney, 12, is a last-minute addition to the final outdoor gig of this year’s South Tyneside Festival’s Sunday concert series.

So far, the likes of KT Tunstall, Busted, Jedward and Louisa Johnson have gone down a storm with the South Shields faithful, and Courtney will open for final headliners and disco legends, Sister Sledge, at Bents Park.

Courtney made it all the way to the final of The Voice Kids, having wowed with her energetic takes on the likes of Nutbush City Limits, Dancing in the Streets, and I Feel Good, keeping coaches Danny Jones, Will.I.Am and Pixie Lott and viewers at home thoroughly entertained.

After appearing on TVs across the nation since last month, she is now gearing up to step out in front of a crowd of around 20,000 at Sunday’s concert. Courtney will appear on stage before fellow support act The Shakes, ahead of Sister Sledge.

“I’ve heard about the South Tyneside Festival Sunday Concerts before and I can’t believe I am now getting the chance to be a part of it,” she said.

“It will be a big new experience performing at an open-air event like this, especially in front of such a large audience, but I love a big stage and I’m really excited. I can’t wait.”

Gates at Bents Park will open at around 12.30pm and entry is free.

Meanwhile, Joe McElderry has joined a rather exclusive X Factor club, becoming only the fifth act from the show to land four or more top 10 albums in the UK.

The South Shields singer’s latest release is Saturday Night at the Movies, and he’ll be singing songs from that when he takes to the stage at Newcastle’s Theatre Royal tonight.

He will also be at Sunderland Empire on August 10, joined by fellow X Factor star Sam Callahan and Any Dream Will Do contestants Keith Jack and Ben James Ellis. Peterlee schoolgirl Courtney Hadwin on The Voice Kids
