Anglers not put off by the weather

- BY PAUL ARMSTRONG

THE variable weather of the last week has had a marked effect on local sport, but the brilliant sunshine and thunderous downpours did not deter local anglers giving it a go!

Dissington Pond is in fine form with anglers getting a fish a chuck when conditions are right. Small rudd, ide and perch are dominating nets, with tench and crucian carp coming as a bonus. It’s very similar sport on the Big Waters large lake, but lots of skimmers and the odd big bream making life interesting!

The newly-refreshed Woodpecker Lake at Aldin Grange is fishing well for ide, chub and crucian carp, it’s also good that the newly-introduced barbel are now feeding well.

At Esthwaite Water coarse fishers are not just enjoying catching big double figure nets of silver fish, but some are taking advantage of the guided perch trips which are yielding some absolutely massive stripeys! For full details phone Dave on 015394 36541

Sport at the Angel of the North continues to be first class, both pleasure anglers and the match fishermen are getting some tremendous results. Last Saturday’s open on Bowes lake saw a tremendously close result when Dave Pearson weighed in a massive 195lb 6ozs narrowly pipping John Dryden with 194lb 12oz.

The third match of Wansbeck & Cramlington’s Carp Series was a success! John Know ran out the winner with three carp for 44lb 6ozs, Martin Deagle followed with two fish for 29lb 10oz ahead of Phil Dodds with a single carp of 15lb 8oz.

Sunderland FAC’s fifth match of their Evening Series was won by Roger Turner with 2lb 14ozs ahead of Les Cooper with 1lb 10oz. The same club’s open on Silksworth last Sunday went to Roy Gillett with 7lb 6ozs, ahead of Darren Stanford with 5lb 5oz and Roger Turner with 4lb 15oz.
