A fundraising campaign set up in Bradley Lowery’s name has already raised hundreds of thousands of pounds.

The brave six-year-old died last month following a courageous fight with childhood cancer neuroblastoma.

His battle won the hearts of the nation and online fundraising drive has already raised hundreds of thousands of pounds.

The drive, which has a goal of £500,000, was set up just 56 days ago but already generous wellwishers have donated £362,313 – and growing.

Lynn Murphy started the campaign with the original goal of supporting Bradley’s treatment.

But since his death, she has confirmed the cash will be donated to the youngster’s foundation in a bid to support other families affected by cancer.

Ms Murphy said: “We will help Bradley’s legacy live on by working tirelessly to support and motivate families, with all aspects of running a successful campaign. We hope everyone who has supported us previously will carry on showing your support, for future families.”

On Friday night, Sunderland, the team he supported, paid an emotional tribute to Bradley before their first game of the season against Derby County.

Spectators rose to their feet for a rousing minute-long applause in the brave lad’s memory.

Bradley’s grieving parents, Gemma and Carl Lowery, watched on as Derby’s players and fans joined in as both teams lined up in the centre circle for the minute’s applause and footage of the cheeky lad taken at the stadium of was played.

Gemma watched on from the Bradley Lowery Foundation box for the first time.

She said: “Last night was very emotional for myself and Bradley’s daddy. We both had anxiety driving up to Sunderland AFC and found it extremely difficult being there without our little superhero.

“However we were extremely proud and overwhelmed with the minute applause. Sunderland have supported us so much and will continue to.

“Another thing I was proud of last night was having our first child use the Bradley Lowery Foundation box.

“Nicole had an amazing time and she was super excited when we scored. Her little face was amazing and that is why we will carry on helping other children.

“I promised my baby I will do everything I can to help people who need us and to put smiles on children’s faces.”

An online campaign to rename a stand at Sunderland’s home ground in honour of Bradley, from Blackhall, County Durham, has received more than 70,000 signatures.
