Lambert injury blow for Diamonds

-

NEWCASTLE Diamonds go to Peterborough today attempting to secure a National Fours Championship,

With the recent signing of the experienced Stuart Robson, the odds on the Diamonds being involved in the mix for honours in ‘The Fours’ was increased as Robson was due to line-up alongside skipper Ludvig Lindgren and Team GB stars Robert Lambert and Stevie Worrall.

But the curse of the Diamonds’ injury-hit season, which has seen them having to make four changes in personnel so far during the campaign, has hit again and severely dented their chances of silverware at the Alwalton begins at 2pm.

Robert Lambert has been ruled out by doctors with a leg injury picked up after a heavy fall during the last race at King’s Lynn last Wednesday, as Team manager George English explains.

“Robert is battered and bruised from a series of heavy falls over the last month or so, and was strapped up from head to toe in his last meeting for us last Sunday against Edinburgh where he also took two tumbles. He is tough and was determined track when racing to race at Peterborough but unfortunately his Heat 15 smash on Wednesday has finally put him out of action which is a massive, massive disappointment to us.

“As a result, we will be promoting former Peterborough rider Ashley Morris from reserve so we’re not completely out of is yet.”

Lambert’s condition has been a concern for the Diamonds in recent weeks as the teenage sensation’s busy schedule also sees him riding league speedway in Sweden and Poland as well as him being one of the leading contenders in both the European and World U-21 Championships.
