Reversal of fortune for Billingham

- BY PAUL ARMSTRONG

WE are certainly bringing in some very good junior anglers here in the North East – the talent and ability of whom was plain to see in the second match of the Angling Trust/Preston Innovations under 16’s league at the Angel of the North.

This match saw a reversal of last week’s result with juniors from Billingham AC taking the top two places. Ethan Summersgill took the honours with a creditable 31lb 7ozs, ahead of teammate Harvey Short with 30lb 4oz. Big Waters juniors Ben Hunter and Kian O’Brian followed with 21lb 2oz and 17lb 9ozs respectively.

General sport throughout the area continues to be quite good. Local rivers are coming into their own, and still waters continue to provide some first-class action.

Dissington Pond is still in fine form; perch are dominating nets with fish averaging 4oz. These, along with Rudd, roach and ide, make the water worth a visit.

The Big Waters large lake is giving some nice catches; float tactics best but feeder works well in windy conditions.

Sunderland FAC’s match at Silksworth last Sunday was won by Roy Gillett with 6lb 8ozs, ahead of Les Cooper with 3lb 5oz and Darren Stanford with 1lb 6oz. The midweek open went to Ian Foster with 7lb 10oz, followed by Brad MacParlin with 7lb 2oz and Les Cooper with 4lb 3oz.

The Big Waters Away Day to Cedar Lake at Sessay saw a good turnout with 27 anglers making the trip. John Reynolds led the way with 59lbs, Tony Glennie followed with 55lb 14ozs ahead of Gary Rutherford with 51lbs.
