Bandits get revenge over Scorpions

-

HAVING suffered a defeat at the hands of the Scunthorpe Scorpions earlier in the season, the Berwick Bandits were on the lookout for revenge – and they got it.

The home side started well, Nick Morris fending off a physical first bend from former Bandit Tero Aarnio for a home 4-2.

After Jack Parkinson-Blackburn blew an engine in Heat Two, losing a point, the score was 7-5.

Ryan Douglas and Lewis Kerr are enjoying a purple patch and they roared ahead of Kevin Doolan and Dany Gappmaier.

Despite a late charge from the skipper, the 1-5 put Scunthorpe ahead 8-10 before David Howe powered away to win the fourth in a shared 3-3. A brilliant Doolan win from the gate in Heat Five, along with a third from Gappmaier, tied the meeting at 15-15.

Aarnio gated well in the sixth, but by the end of the second bend, Doolan and Morris had rounded him to take a fine home maximum.

Kerr and Douglas were at it again for Scunthorpe in Heat Seven, leading the way, with Jye Etheridge chasing hard in third, but the 1-5 levelled it again 21-21.

Parkinson-Blackburn got Josh Bailey in his sights and powered around him to take a fantastic point in a home 4-2. Scunthorpe’s Aarnio didn’t help their cause when he went through the tapes in Heat Nine, while Doolan’s bike failed on the last lap, turning a 5-1 to a 2-4 to level at 27-27.

After two riveting 3-3s, Heat 13 saw Howe and Morris race to the front but Auty overtook Howe on the back straight to seal second in a 4-2 to level at 40-38.

Doolan made a magnificent gate i to lead with Etheridge defending second over Douglas for a matchwinning 5-1.
