Chester take derby against Academy

Russell Hughes bowling for Alnmoutth & Lesbury in their match with Annfield Plain CHESTER-LE-STREET won the ‘big derby,’ in the NEPL beating The Durham Academy by eight wickets, at Ropery Lane.

The Academy made 153 all out, with 68 coming from opener Scott Steel and 33 from Matthew Potts.

Quinten Hughes took an excellent 4-29 and Andrew Smith returned 3-17.

The Cestrians then took just 32 overs to score the runs, with opener Kyle Davis making 73 not out, from 96 balls, including 10 fours.

Fellow opener George Harrison made 54 and they put on a 116 run partnershi­p, for the first wicket, to secure the 30 points.

Norton were relegated from the Darlington Building Society NYSD ECB Premier League, after a torrid season, after being hammered at home by Marske.

The home side batted first and made a paltry 28, with Lewis Harper claiming 4-13 and Ben Van Rensburg an amazing 5-6. Sam Berry claimed the other wicket.

In reply, Marske made 29-0 to claim an easy 20 points. Ashington kept up the pressure at the top of the NTSL, with an eight-wicket win at struggling Leadgate.

The home side made 169 all out, with Robbie Hockaday scoring an excellent 80, with Matthew Collins taking 4-28.

In reply, D Grant made an excellent century, scoring 114 not out, to ease the current champions to victory for the loss of two wickets.

In the NCL, Blyth took another huge step towards promotion, when they won by eight wickets at Corbridge, after the home side batted first.

They made just 79 all out, including 31 extras, thanks to Will Asher returning excellent bowling figures of 5-34 and

Alnmouth celebrate a wicket Mark Lawrence backed him up, with 3-8.

Andrew Ebdale then hit 35 not out, to easily win the Game for the visitors, closing on 80-2.

Tudhoe slipped up in the race for promotion in the DCL, as they went down to Seaham Park at home, by 58 runs.

The visitors made 159 all out, mainly thanks to Neil Young scoring 65, with Abhiram Joshi returning 3-20.

Tudhoe then collapsed to 101 all out, with Dale Shaw taking an excellent 5-39 and Michael Walker returning 3-12, – with only James Curry’s 32 offering any resistance.
