SUNDERLAND RCA 4 ASHINGTON 0

-

Sunderland RCA’s Greg Swansbury battles in midfield during the victory over visiting Ashington in yesterday’s FA Cup preliminary round tie thing of note, a quiet first half came to a close with the hosts a goal to the good.

If the first half took its time to get going, the second was the opposite, as Callen doubled Sunderland RCA’s lead six minutes after the break.

A fantastic turn and a smart finish left Colliers keeper Conor Grant stranded as Meadow Park celebrating a fine goal.

With 23 minutes remaining, Elliott extended the hosts’ lead with a cool finish that rounded off a patient, passing move.

If that goal was the cake, then Callen provided the icing and the cherry with another fine finish on 70 minutes.

The forward danced his way towards goal and slotted the ball past Grant to cap a miserable day for the Colliers.

The win means that Sunderland RCA remain unbeaten at Meadow Park this season, after wins over Garforth Town and Penrith and a draw against Washington.

And manager Martin Swales is hoping for more of the same in the next round.

He said “We were fantastic today, we bossed it for the start to the finish.

“If it wasn’t for Conor Grant it could have been seven or eight.

“We would want a home draw and to get a few in through the gates again. We are looking forward to the draw”
