A TEENAGER was killed in a car crash while out celebrating her birthday.

Tributes have been paid to the 19-year-old, who has been named locally as Beth Fisher, as a neighbour told how he desperately tried to help after the smash.

The nursery nurse was fatally injured when the car she was in hit several parked vehicles in Bedlington during the early hours of yesterday morning.

Another woman was seriously injured and remains in hospital.

Police have arrested a 17-year-old boy and two 20-year-old men in connection with the collision, which happened on Victoria Terrace.

And yesterday, as officers continue to question them on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, a dad has revealed how he tried to help the casualties in the aftermath of the smash.

Gavin Wilkinson said: “Everybody was out their houses and everyone was helping. It just shows how fragile life is. She was just a bairn, just 19 and out celebrating her birthday.”

Dad-of-two Gavin was asleep in bed when he was awoken by the sound of screeching tyres.

After looking out of the window and seeing the wrecked car, he rushed out to see what he could do.

“I heard the tyres and I jumped out of bed and looked out of the window and it was just carnage,” he said.

“I called 999, then I just grabbed a first aid kit and ran out.”

Gavin helped tend to Beth and the other injured woman until paramedics arrived.

But sadly nothing could be done to save Beth’s life.

“We all did the best we could,” said Gavin. “The paramedics were here very quick. The car was completely devastated, I think it had hit about three parked cars.

“This is the fourth time in the last 12 months that there’s been a serious accident along here.”

Meanwhile, Beth’s loved ones have been posting tributes to her on Facebook.

Megan Brown wrote: “Absolutely heartbreaking to find out what has happened, rest in peace Beth, one of the nicest and canniest girls I’ve ever met, just wanted to enjoy her life.

“Always giving me the best advice even if I didn’t listen she would still support everything I’d done.

“My heart goes out to all her family and friends. You never know when the last time you’re going to see someone.”

Hayleigh Clear said: “My best friend for years and you’ve been taken far too soon, don’t know what life is going to be without you, the one person I could go to with everything talk about anything, you were like my little sidekick.

“All our memories, gonna miss you so much my beautiful best friend, party up there for us all.”

And Ross Granger added: “Can’t get over this she was a lovely lass. RIP Beth Fisher never be forgotten darl ya gana be a big miss.”
