No taming of the Shrews at the top

-

SHREWSBURY maintained their three-point lead at the top of League One despite Bradley Dack’s late equaliser in a 1-1 home draw against Blackburn.

The Shrews extended their unbeaten league start to nine matches, while Peterborough climbed into second place after Jack Marriott’s late winner clinched them a 3-2 home win against promotion rivals Wigan.

Bradford moved into third place as Tony McMahon’s superb free-kick secured them a 1-0 win at Northampton.

Late goals from Ryan Sweeney and Ellis Harrison earned Bristol Rovers a 3-1 home win against in-form Blackpool while Rotherham thrashed Oldham 5-1 at the New York Stadium – their third home win by that scoreline this season.

First-half goals from Lee Novak and Duane Holmes secured Scunthorpe a 2-0 home win against Portsmouth and Charlton were held 1-1 at home by Bury while Southend cruised to their first league win since the opening day with a 4-2 victory at 10-man Fleetwood.

Walsall registered their first league success in four with a 2-1 win at Oxford while Doncaster halted a run of three straight league defeats with a 3-0 win at out-of-sorts Plymouth and Rochdale secured only their second league win of the season by beating Gillingham 3-0.

Exeter suffered their first Sky Bet League Two defeat of the season as Troy Brown’s own goal and Devon Kelly-Evans’ first Football League goal secured Coventry a 2-0 win.

The defeat meant Notts County moved to the top of the table with a convincing 4-1 win against 10-man Lincoln. The duo are being chased by Luton, who moved to third with a 1-0 home win against Chesterfield – despite ending with 10 men.

Mansfield came from behind to beat Cambridge 2-1, with a Jacob Mellis penalty and 87thminute Danny Rose strike cancelling out Leon Legge’s opener.

Padraig Amond has a habit of scoring against his former club Grimsby and he scored the only goal in a 1-0 win for Newport.

Jimmy Smith scored twice to earn Crawley a 2-1 win at Barnet, while new loan signing Kyle Wootton snatched a 2-1 victory for Stevenage against Morecambe.

Craig Mackail-Smith grabbed Wycombe’s winner in a 2-1 success at Colchester and Port Vale held on for a 1-1 draw at Yeovil, despite Jamie Gibbons’ late dismissal.

Accrington and Cheltenham played out a 1-1 draw, with both goals coming in the space of two minutes from Mo Eisa and Kayden Jackson.
