Flags set to fly for a confident Benitez

-

RAFA Benitez insists Newcastle CAN win things on his watch – as he prepares for a huge Super Sunday against the team he lifted the biggest prize in football with.

Benitez will pit his wits against managerial mate Jurgen Klopp today fully aware that all four sides of the ground will be chanting his name before the match.

A huge Gallowgate flags display – one of the biggest in English football, according to the organisers – with a Benitezthemed message will greet the United boss before kick-off. And the noises around his future seem much more positive than a few weeks ago following a frustrating transfer window.

Asked whether United can win trophies under him, he says he’s sure they can because the team he has assembled has the hunger to improve.

“Yes for sure, I think so. It depends on a lot of things. If you have 25 players more or less the same standard it’s very difficult [against the top teams] but it can happen,” he said.

“In one game in a cup competition it can happen. If you [a top team] are playing away against a team with all the fans behind them and you concede you start panicking and it can happen. It’s confidence.

“If you talk about Newcastle and young players. Can they grow enough? Yes, they can improve because the way they approach every training session, they are learning.

“You also need experienced players to help them to develop.

He added: “Sometimes, you just need to be a little bit lucky with things [to win a trophy].” A large display is planned
