Open all areas on North side of reservoir

COARSE anglers will be delighted to know that Northumbri­a Water have opened all areas of the North side of the Derwent Reservoir to any method angling.

Fishing on the South side is only available from the oak tree to the dam wall, Pow Hill is closed because of low levels.

Sunderland FAC’s trip to the Silverfish Pond at The Carrs last Sunday saw Roy Gillett rule the day with a 10lb 3oz mixed net.

It was the wet and cold conditions that resulted in only three anglers turning up for the latest Leazes Park AA Winter league match on their city centre venue.

Alan Robson took the win with 8lb 10oz, ahead of Phil Watts with 4lb 15oz and Colin Rutter with 1lb 15oz.

Big Waters AC’s Dissington Trophy match was badly affected by cold overnight temperatur­es which discourage­d the pond’s bigger fish from feeding.

Lee Richardson found a few small roach and perch to win with 1lb 4oz, followed by Paul O’Donnell with 1lb 2oz and Dave Hambleton with 12oz.

Durham City AC’s latest Pike match was won by Neil Renforth with two fish for 9lb 7oz, John Gray took two fish for 9lb and 12year-old Seth Cresswell did very well to take two pike for 6lb 5ozs.

Vince Dack took the win in Wansbeck & Cramlingto­n’s Feeder Only match on Milkhope with 3lb 4oz.

Last Sunday’s open on the Angel of the Norths on Bowes Lake was won by John Dryden with 96lb 13 oz, ahead of John Foster with 81lb and Martin Craig with 65lb 13oz.
