HEBBURN 0 JARROW 0

-

Things get a little heated in the Northern League Two game between Hebburn Town (yellow and black) and Jarrow (blue) looked destined for the top right-hand corner of Hubery’s net, but the Hornets number one produced an acrobatic save to tip the ball wide of his near-post.

Gary Shaw came close to opening the scoring with half-time approaching, with the best of his two quickfire chances deflected over the bar by the impressive defending of Jordan Mellish.

The highlight of the game was the physical contest between Hornets striker Paul Chow and Jarrow captain Jor- dan Mellish.

The duo tussled and tangled throughout, in a intriguing battle.

They were rarely separated, although Mellish was grateful for the alert defending of Nick Little, as he intercepted a Hargrave cross with an unmarked Chow waiting for a simple tap-in at the far post.

The game had been rather timid for a local derby, although it burst into life as a coming together between Glen Hargrave and Nick Quinn led to a scuffle involving a number of players.

The protagonists were both shown a yellow card.

Hebburn rallied as the game headed into the final 20 minutes.

Shaw sent in a free-kick that narrowly escaped the attentions of Chow and Anthony Myers and nestled into the grateful grasp of Jarrow keeper Gary Frater.

The visitors could have snatched all three points as David Coulson’s lastditch tackle denied substitute Sam Atwell as he looked set to fire past Hubery.

The final word went to Chow and Mellish. The striker raced in on goal, but the Jarrow skipper denied him one last time and ensured his side have taken four points from the near-neighbours this season.
