Moors merrier after Taylor’s strike

-

SPENNYMOOR Town and Blyth Spartans continue to go toe to toe in the National League North.

But yesterday, the Moors late success at Nuneaton Town was perhaps enhanced by Spartans’ defeat.

Jason Ainsley’s men moved into fourth place after their narrow victory in Warwickshire as Glen Taylor netted the winner, seven minutes from time.

It was close to being the perfect start for the hosts. Ashley Chambers witnessed his shot deflect narrowly wide.

Jordan Nicholson, who was also seen as a constant threat, missed the greatest opportunity of the half. In the 35th minute, he had the goal gapping from six yards out, but somehow shot wide of the post.

Midway through the second period, an encounter between Joe Tait and Chambers sparked the game into life.

Nuneaton resumed to see the better chances with most noticeable Leon Lobioit failing to the find target.

And cliché of “you have to score when you’re on top” worked in the visitors’ favour.

David Foley fired a low cross along the six-yard box, and the killer instinct of Taylor allowed the Moors top scorer to comfortably tap home from close range for hs 10th goal of the campaign.

Ainsley’s player survived one last scar as Chambers almost instantly responded, but could only find the side netting with his shot.
