Annfield slip up and give win to Windscale

-

WINDSCALE won for only the second time this season with a 2-1 home victory against Annfield Plain.

Richmond Town capitalised on Annfield’s defeat by leapfrogging them into seventh with a 2-1 win over Darlington Reserves.

Simon Pinkey scored on his first league appearance for the Town, before Christopher Pattison’s strike proved to be the winning goal.

Ten teams lined up in the Durham Trophy first round.

In an all Gateshead affair, Leam Rangers surprised Gateshead ‘A’ with a 1-0 win.

Silksworth CW and Birtley Town required penalties to book their place in the second round.

Nicky Smith was among goals once more for Silky as it ended 1-1. His side won the shootout 4-2.

Birtley Town drew 2-2 with Hartlepool FC, emerging victorious 5-4 on spot-kicks.

The Green-and-White Army took the lead but Pools turned the game around as Paul Moss and Matt Gardner scored.

But Hartlepool’s lead barely lasted a minute as a long-distance shot cannoned off the crossbar and into the path of a Birtley attacker.

Sunderland West continued their fine form with a fourth victory in a row away at Harton and Westoe CW.

West End went in front after six minutes when Anthony Ross was on-hand to find the net again.

Twenty minutes later, two goals in six minutes from Lee Smith and Adam Drysdale saw the visitors race into a 3-0 at the break.

Harton and Westoe were much improved in the second half but still fell to a 4-0 defeat as Mark Catheside also put his name on the scoresheet.

Coxhoe Athletic hit five past South Shields in a 5-2 win.

Mo Hmida set the home side on their way as he netted a quick opener.

Chris Hardy ensured Coxhoe had breathing space at half-time.

Phil Best’s strike put Athletic 3-0 up before the visitors looked to be mounting a comeback, pulling two goals back in quick succession.

But Coxhoe kept their composure as Ryan Jones and another Best goal seen the hosts home and dry.
