Foley in fine form to set up Moors victory

- BY MARK CARRUTHERS

Spennymoor’s David Foley celebrates scoring the opening goal against Harrogate Town DAVID Foley continued his impressive start to life at Spennymoor Town as his sparkling display helped them to an eye-catching win over Harrogate Town.

The former South Shields forward seems intent on holding his own goal of the season competition and he added yet another contender with the opening strike of the game.

With just two minutes on the clock, he collected a loose ball, controlled it on his chest, turned and lashed a volley past Harrogate keeper James Belshaw.

The visitors should have been back on level terms after nine minutes as they looked to make a quick recovery.

Former Sunderland Academy man Liam Agnew played an intricate through ball to release Jack Emmett in on goal but he could only lash it over Jordan Porter’s bar.

Buoyed by their first chance, the visitors continued to press and saw Andrew Nelson’s looping header strike the top of the Moors cross-bar.

Their failure to grab an equaliser was punished on 18 minutes as Glen Taylor doubled the Moors’ lead and set off wild celebrations around Brewery Field.

The goal owed much to poor work from Belshaw as the visitors’ number one dropped a Ryan Hall cross and that allowed Glen Taylor to produce a simple finish for his tenth league strike of the season.

The game finally settled, as the two sides took a breather after what had been an action-packed start.

However, the game burst into life
