Trodd brace helps Seaton to high five

A SECOND-half brace from Michael Trodd sent Seaton Delaval top of the Premier Division in style.

Delaval won 5-0 at Newbiggin, who were down to 10 men at the end of the first half. The visitors led through a Shane Donaghy goal, and Trodd’s goals were added to by Michael Baxter and Matty Hayton.

In the League Cup, Birtley and Newcastle University both progressed in extra time, the former winning 4-1 at home to league rivals Northbank while the latter edged through 3-2 at home to Newcastle Chemfica.

Callum Horne notched the winner in the ninth minute of extra time.

Wallington, following a 4-4 draw at Hexham, and Gateshead Rutherford, who drew1-1 at Wallsend Boys Club, progressed after shoot-out success.

Bedlington dumped Premier Division hosts Gateshead A 4-2, with Andrew McLenan scoring twice. Willington Quay Saints won 4-1 at Cullercoat­s.

In the Bill Gardner Cup, Prudhoe Youth Club claimed the scalp of Ashington Colliers, Matt Robinson scoring the winner five minutes from time.

Killingwor­th YPC won 3-2 at Shankhouse, with Malcom Morien scoring twice for YPC and Connor Lamb netting the other. The hosts replied through Telford and Anderson.

Winlaton stunned visitors North Shields Athletic 3-2 with Scott Palmer notching two and Matty Atkin the other. Owen Gourley and Matty Eilis replied.

FC United of Newcastle and Whitley Bay A won 6-0 and 5-1 respective­ly.

Owen Whitmore struck three for FC United, while James Proctor did the same for the Bay.

In the Northumber­land Minor Cup, Seaton Burn won 2-0 at home to Wideopen.

In the First Division, Felling Magpies crashed 5-2 at home to New Fordley, Kew and Henderson with a brace for each.

Hazlerigg won 3-1 at Gosforth Bohemians, Patterson with a goal in each half.

Monkseaton and Hebburn Reyrolle drew 2-2. Goals came from Michael Slater and Mark Minto for the Monks and Daniel Beenshill and Sean Flood for Reyrolle.

Second Division leaders Blyth Spartans Reserves won 7-1 against Seghill, with Liam Wotherspoo­n and Sean Cowx both scoring twice.

There were also doubles for Liam Younger, as Cramlingto­n United defeated visitors Gateshead Redheugh 4-1, and Ross Seaman, as Whitley Sporting Club won 3-1 at home to Whitburn.
