CONSETT 3 SHILDON 0

-

Consett celebrate as they add to their tally in yesterday’s Northern League Division One victory against Shildon

The former Billingham Synthonia striker crashed home his 11th league goal of the season after collecting a neat pass from strike partner David Dowson.

That goal was rich reward after an impressive first-half display from Mark Eccles’ side.

They almost added a third goal just before the hour mark and it took a remarkable save from Nick Liversedge to prevent them from doing so. Dan Craggs whipped a free-kick into the Shildon area and Michael Sweet got a slight touch on the ball with the head.

However, Liversedge managed to stop the ball from landing in the net when the ball hit him on the forehand and rebounded to safety.

A third goal did arrive and it fell to Sweet to net his second goal of the day.

Dan Hawkins had been a major influence on the game and his clever pass released David Dowson in on goal.

Liversedge managed to parry his effort but the loose ball ran to Sweet and he tapped the ball into the net.

The striker thought he had a hattrick in the closing stages as he pounced on another rebound after a Liversedge save before firing into the net. However, an offside flag cut short his celebrations.

In the end, that decision meant little and when the full-time whistle blew, it brought an end to a fine display from Consett.
