Heaton have Wright stuff to challenge

-

HEATON Stannington moved two points behind leaders Northallerton Town after a 2-1 win at Bedlington Terriers.

Jon Wright scored in both halves for the Stan.

His first came after 18 minutes when he converted from a smart Andrew Robertson free-kick.

Calvin McMahon equalised from the penalty spot on the hour mark but Wright restored the visitors’ lead four minutes later.

Northallerton fell to a surprise 3-1 home defeat to Durham City.

Things looked to be going according to plan when Richard Walker dispatched his spot-kick on 21 minutes.

But the referee awarded another penalty in favour of the Citizens, which Bradley Hird scored.

But it was Christopher Pattison who emerged as the second-half hero, hitting a brace as Durham moved up to 10th.

Blyth AFC continued their unbeaten start under new joint-managers Jon McDonald and Ian Skinner.

The 4-0 scoreline made it look a routine win for Blyth at Billingham Town, but it wasn’t until the 60th minute that the Billy defence was breached.

Gary Day scored from the penalty spot.

A double from David Robinson and a debut goal from Michael Chilton saw Blyth move level on points with third place.

Ryton and Crawcrook Albion continued their rise up the table with a third consecutive win.

Tyler Davies’ strike was enough for Ryton to take the three points.

Ryton overcame secondbottom Darlington RA, who are without a win since September.

Chester-le-Street picked up a huge three points over relegation rivals Brandon United to move five points clear of the bottom two.

The Cestrians breezed past Brandon in a 4-1 home victory.

Michael Hepplewhite hit a brace while Daniel McGuire and Arron Thompson also found the scoresheet.

Jarrow earned an eyecatching 2-1 home win over high-flying Thornaby.

Daniel Chapman replied for the visitors in the 70th minute but Nick Quinn stole the show with an 88th-minute winner to add to his 29th-minute opener.
