Steven Edgar, of Hebburn, who attacked his former partner and this week received a suspended prison sentence for assault, tried to get a job as a children’s entertainer Crime reporter A THUG who attacked his ex with a fish tank ornament had been trying to get a job as a children’s entertainer, it can today be revealed.

Steven Edgar escaped being sent straight to jail after a court heard how he used a large piece of bogwood as a weapon during a row at the woman’s home.

But he attempted to hide his violent personality when he asked South Tyneside-based party company, Onestop Entertainments, for work.

Peter Wilson, who runs the family business, claims Edgar met him at an event and told him he would be interested in a position with the firm.

He even went as far as trying on a costume of ‘the boy who never grew up’, Peter Pan.

But Mr Wilson became suspicious when he asked Edgar to provide him with the th criminal i i l records d check h he requires from all his employees.

The 46-year-old was proved right when Edgar admitted the violent attack against his former partner.

And he now believes he’s had a lucky escape.

Mr Wilson said: “It’s really important to us that we have the right type of people working for us. We have definitely had a lucky escape.

“I gave him a chance to get a CRB check and he couldn’t get one. If someone can’t get a CRB check there’s obviously something wrong. That’s when the alarm bells rang. Now it’s all making sense.

“There’s no way I would employ someone like that.”

Newcastle Crown Court heard how Edgar, of Williamson Street, Hebburn, cut the woman’s head and damaged a wall when he threw the ornament at her.

Jane Foley, prosecuting, said Edgar had been at the woman’s home on November 5 last year
