Points are a steal with Stan’s great giveaway

Action from Heaton Stanningto­n’s 3-3 draw against Crook Town in the Ebac Northern League NOTHING ever seems to be as simple as black or white with Heaton Stanningto­n.

The Grounsell Park club are quite rightly seen as one of the contenders for promotion into the Northern League’s top-tier.

They possess genuine attacking talent, creativity and pace.

But they are liable to give away goals, as they found out to their cost in a scrappy draw against a dogged Crook Town side.

In reality, the Stan created enough chances to take all three points, but they were punished for poor decision-making throughout the game.

There were just two minutes on the clock when Crook took the lead.

A long throw into the Stan area caused problems in the home defence and David Paul lashed a loose ball past Dan Mullen and into the net.

The hosts reacted well to falling behind, with Shane Jones and Andrew Robertson going close within two minutes of Paul’s opener.

And it was Jones that got his side back on level terms in the eighth minute.

Jake Turnbull and Josh Holland combined down the right, before the latter saw his cross parried by Crook keeper Callum Liddicott.

However, the loose ball ran to Jones and he calmly stroked the ball into the net.

Dan Pigg almost put Crook back in front on the quarter-hour when his shot from the edge of the area
